A Review of True Ghost Stories: Real Haunted Hospitals and Mental Asylums

This is a book for those of us who love the paranormal, ghost stories, and the unexplained. But most of all for those of us who are interested in the stories about haunted hospitals and mental asylums. The introduction to the book gives a brief history of asylums in the US and the stories focus on 13 of the most famous ones. The stories cover hospitals like Waverly Hills Sanitorium, and the famous Old Changi Military Hospital.

I particularly liked that the author documents a brief history of each hospital. The author gives not a first hand account but accounts from investigations and visitors to the areas. I thought the book was very well written and the stories easy to read. I also liked that the stories were creepy. One thing that really stood out to me about this book was the author’s enthusiasm for the subject. I honestly felt his excitement of these places along with him. He also has a knack for making the reader feel like he is there too.

My only critique of the book was that I wish there would have been pictures included of each of these places.  I also wish that there would have been a more lengthy history of the locations but I don’t think that this is what the book was focused on. It was focused on the stories of the hauntings and why these locations became that way.

I would definitely recommend this book to others who are interested in this subject matter. It’s a quick, easy, creepy read. I have read tons of these stories and did find that this one was particularly well written. The author also has other books in this series that I am going to check out. Are the stories true or are they myths? I honestly don’t know but what I do know is that if you love a good ghost story then this book is for you.
